Self Portrait in Armenian Taraz
This self-portrait is inspired by my experiences as a first-generation American. As a first-gen citizen, I experience the diaspora of being “other” from my typical American peers but also disconnected from my Armenian heritage, painting myself in a traditional Armenian Taraz dress is a presentation of my connection to my culture but also my disconnect from it as i’ve never actually gotten to wear one in life.
